A Birthday Dress in Several Acts:

Act One:
Cut out the dress. Normally the easiest (albiet most tedious) part of sewing. Almost brainless. Alas, these days it is a nightmare to do anything including simple stuff.
Ingredients:
Fabric: Susan Winget’s “Gypsy Song“
Pattern: Twirly Skirt bottom and a top similar to this one by Folkwear
Machines: Bernina 1080 and Janome Mylock 644-D (Cant’ wait for another Babylock Imagine!)
So… I cut out the skirt today. This is what it will look like.

I started with the main border print. I knew I wanted he red above and below the border and that I wanted a mini rufle of the yellow at the bottom. So I cut 1 yard of the black border into 4 stripes. Then I cut 7 strips of the red at the right width for an attractive look plus 3/4″. (For a 3/8″ seam allowance) I chose a narrow width of stripe for the bottom ruffle and then I’ll cut the red once the rest of the dress is made.
That pretty much whipped me for the day. I’m back to handsewing the bishop for now. I also have to make a bow band for Little Euphemia’s baptism tomorrow. However, I made a start. That’s what counts. I’ll look pretty silly later sitting in my recliner and serging all those lengths together. Hee hee.
